How To Open The Default Email Folders In Outlook

Microsoft Outlook is termed as a personal information manager that helps the users to schedule their important days and events. In addition to that, it also serves as one of the most widely used email applications. However, sometimes the user may encounter issues with Outlook where the program would not open your default email folders. According to the Microsoft tech support, this could be due to the following reasons.

  • Outlook is not able to connect to the network server, where your personal folder files are stored.
  • You have not created a personal folder file.
  • You have, and your personal folder file has become corrupted.

You can follow these instructions to create a personal folder file in Outlook before you try the Outlook repair.

  • In the first step, open the Windows Control Panel by clicking Start and then highlighting and clicking Control Panel.
  • Now, double-click on the icon in the Control Panel, to open the Mail application and click Show Profiles in the Mail setup window that appears.
  • In the next step, check the box next to Prompt for a profile to be used. Click Add to create a profile. Type a user name into the text box in the New Profile dialogue box, and click OK to create the account.
  • Enter a name, email address, and enter a password twice for your new account in the E-mail Accounts window, and click Next.
  • Now, re-enter your name, email address and password when prompted, and click Next until you get a pop up message to click Finish. Click OK to complete the new account creation.

You can now use the Inbox repair tool to do the Outlook repair.

  • Here, open Windows Search application and enter scanpst.exe in the text box present in the upper right corner of the Search application. Now, press Enter. Windows would take a few moments to locate this tool depending on the size of your hard drive, and the number of files.
  • Run the Inbox Repair Tool by double-clicking on scanpst.exe and enter the name of the corrupted personal folder file. You can click through to the default location for a PST file in Outlook by clicking through to Computer, then Users followed by your user name. Now, click the AppData option, followed by Local, Microsoft and then Outlook.
  • Click Start to initiate the repair of your personal file folder. Windows would now repair your damaged PST file.
